This Banana Koru has become the signature design created by Kris and the team at MyFoodForest.nz
The Banana Koru installation at Ngāi Te Rangi Marae reflects a harmonious blend of tradition and innovation. The koru, meaning “loop” in te reo Māori, symbolizes new life, growth, and renewal. This spiral shape is a global symbol that has appeared in cultures across the planet since the Neolithic age, and in Aboriginal art where it represents the pursuit of knowledge.
It is found in nature from fern fronds to seashells, echoing the cyclical rhythms of the Earth.
At My Food Forest New Zealand, we embrace the koru as a signature design pattern in our syntropic agroforestry systems—infusing each project with its energy to nurture and heal the land, alongside the constant pursuit and sharing of knowledge.
This design honors Māori and multicultural traditions while connecting us to the universal patterns of nature, creating spaces that thrive in harmony with the environment.
